Fifteen hundred National Guard troops will begin deploying to Afghanistan in November.
Major General Michael Dubie briefed lawmakers at the Statehouse on Thursday on the new mission for Vermont’s National Guard troops. Instead of training Afghan police and military forces, troops could be involved more directly in security operations.
