General Electric employs about 975 people in Rutland County, where the company makes parts for jet engines. And recently, GE’s been in the news because of a debate in Washington over jet engine funding for the F-35 fighter. Pratt and Whitney has been contracted for the engines, but some, including Senator Patrick Leahy, want a competing engine to also be developed – by GE.
Jamie Stewart is the executive director of the Rutland Economic Development Corporation. He spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about General Electric’s place in Rutland County’s economy.
