Federal Court To Hear Case On Videos

A supporter of Vermont state auditor candidate Doug Hoffer is heading to federal court to try to get Vermont’s Department of Public Safety to release a police dashboard video of incumbent Tom Salmon being arrested for drunken driving.

Salmon is asking to be excused from the case, saying he has no interest in fighting about the privacy of the video.

Burlington lawyer John Franco is questioning why police have released a video of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Peter Shumlin’s stop for speeding, but not the Salmon video.

Public Safety Commissioner Tom Tremblay maintains that politics did not play a role in the different treatment of the videos.
