There are more than 95,000 drilled wells in Vermont.  Much of the water we drink comes from these wells that tap into the groundwater supply. But most of us have no clear idea about whether groundwater exists in pools, flows in underground rivers or simply fills spaces in rock and sand – and how much the level and abundance of groundwater varies around the state based largely on geology.

We talk about the science of groundwater with Vermont State Geologist Laurence Becker and Peter Ryan, Professor of Geology at Middlebury College. Send your questions about groundwater to vermontedition@vpr.net.

Also,  VPR’s Steve Zind profiles Vermont Guard Lieutenant Laura Cook of Castleton.  He spoke to her during his recent trip to Afghanistan.
