this Town Meeting Day, voters in one Addison County town have reiterated their strong opposition to a
proposed natural gas pipeline, hoping to boost their voice as the Vermont Gas
Company seeks permission from the state to expand its service south.
VPR Reporter John Dillon talks with Vermont Edition about Cabot rejecting a proposal to close the high school and send its 65 students to other schools in the region. And Will Hunter, moderator of the Cavendish town meeting, talks about which happened last night at the Cavendish Town Elementary School.
Gas has changed the route of the proposed extension of its natural gas pipeline
through Addison County. The
company filed a petition last year for a state permit to build a 42-mile
pipeline from Colchester to Middlebury.
Vermonters are heading to
their town halls and school gymnasiums for Town Meeting to vote on town
and school budgets, elect officials and decide if money should be spent
to support the local library or to build a new roof on the town hall.
