Close to 500 new people moved to Vermont last year, and most of them chose the Burlington area in Chittenden County. Population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the county gained 727 new residents by last July 1– meaning some Vermonters were choosing to relocate to Chittenden County. Meanwhile, counties in southern Vermont continued to experience declines in population. Windsor County lost close to 200 residents. Vermont State Data Center’s Will Sawyer and Jim Matteau from the Windham Regional Commission in Brattleboro speak with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the numbers and the economic impact.
