As Governor Jim Douglas and Democratic leaders at the Statehouse debate the budget, a recent part of the discussion has centered on the state employee retirement package. Some say, a possible early retirement incentive could help the state avoid layoffs.
As these discussions continue, representatives from the Vermont Business Roundtable have been trying to draw attention to current funding shortages within the state employees’ and teachers’ pension and benefits package. VPR’s Jane Lindholm talks with Business Roundtable President Lisa Ventriss, member David Coates and State Treasurer Jeb Spaulding, who heads the state Pension Investment Committee about the package.
