A new scientific paper says that the emergence of certain infectious diseases seems to be driven by globalization and ecological disruption-that habitat destruction and biodiversity loss increase infectious disease rates in humans.

Joe Roman is a fellow at the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics at the University of Vermont.  He’s co-lead author of the paper.  He spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the paper.
