The job of the modern game warden is as much about dealing with people as it is about animals. They patrol backwoods and dirt roads.  They sometimes come upon illegal marijuana operations. They issue motor vehicle infractions and violations.  Missing person investigations often involve game wardens who are familiar with the terrain.

Major Dennis Reinhardt is deputy chief of enforcement for the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife.  Greg Eckhardt is one of more than 30 State Game Wardens who cover Vermont.  Last week he was named State Game Warden of the Year."  Congratulations, and welcome!

They spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about what the job of today’s game warden entails.
