The Green Mountain National Forest will receive $3.3 million in federal stimulus funding for work on trails, buildings and dams.

Vermont’s congressional delegation says $1.4 million will be used to address a backlog of trail maintenance projects; $657,000 to repair a cabin, fire tower and bathrooms; and $1.2 million to restore two dams that retain Lefferts Pond in Chittenden.

The Green Mountain National Forest is working with Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, Green Mountain Club and Vermont Association of Snow Travelers on these projects.

About 40 people over the next two years will work on approximately 627 miles of hiking, skiing, biking, equestrian, and snowmobile trails that need maintenance.
