Senators Says Pipeline Rejection Warranted

Vermont’s congressional delegation is cheering President  Barack Obama’s decision to reject a proposed pipeline to bring Canadian oil to the United States.

The Keystone XL pipeline would have brought oil from the Canadian tar sands to the Gulf of Mexico.

The President says he’s rejecting the project because it hasn’t had sufficient environmental review, and Congress passed legislation requiring the president to make a decision by mid-February.

Senator Patrick Leahy says he commends the President for standing up to strong-arm tactics that are intended to politicize this issue, short-circuit the environmental review process and force an arbitrary deadline.

Senator Bernie Sanders says the president made the right decision and he’ll fight to ensure Congress does not overturn the decision.
