The last time Republicans did well in New Hampshire elections was in 2002.  That year, Republicans won the gubernatorial race, a race for U.S. Senate and both contests for House seats from NH.  Republicans also held on to strong majorities in the state house and senate.

Today, Democrats control the state legislature, the governorship and three of the four US House and Senate seats.

But Republicans say they’re in a strong position to compete in this year’s elections in statewide, federal and local races.

John Gregg is the political editor for the Valley News.  He spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about the upcoming races.
