A committee of New Hampshire House and Senate members have reached a tentative agreement on legislation designed to help certain agencies that provide affordable housing in the state.

The legislation would require assessors to consider the actual income potential — not market value — for affordable housing developed using federal tax credits.

The legislation would help organizations such as Families in Transition that provide subsidized housing for clients in Manchester and Concord in properties developed using federal tax credits.

All the properties involved in the federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit program have a deed restriction that ensures rents remain permanently affordable.
