The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has appointed a new inspector at Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.

Ricardo Fernandes was named senior resident inspector at the plant Monday, succeeding Dave Pelton, who was promoted to a job at the agency’s headquarters in Rockville, Md.

A 14-year veteran of the NRC, Fernandes had been working most recently as a resident inspector at Millstone Station in Waterford, Conn. Before that, he worked in reactor engineering and as a special inspector in the Division of Reactor Safety at NRC offices in King of Prussia, Pa.

Each nuclear reactor in the United States has at least two on-site inspectors working for the NRC. They conduct inspections, monitor work projects and interact with plant workers and the public.

Fernandes joins resident inspector Beth Sienel at Vermont Yankee.
