Lawyer survey gives NH courts low ratings

New Hampshire lawyers are giving the state’s overburdened court system low marks.

More than 10 percent of the state’s 5,000 lawyers responded to a Bar Association survey, giving the courts a 5½ rating on a scale of 1 to 10.

State Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick calls it embarrassing.

The New Hampshire Bar News says the association asked members to rate and comment on the courts. Cheshire County had the lowest ratings, with an average of 3.8. Grafton County rated highest at 6.4.

Top concerns were delays in processing motions and orders and inefficient scheduling. Lawyers tended to blame staffing levels and absence of computerized systems, saying court personnel work in difficult circumstances.
