A judge has ruled that many of the confessions Essex shooting suspect Christopher Williams made to police cannot be used at his upcoming trial.

Judge Geoffrey Crawford ruled Tuesday that police violated Williams’ rights while questioning him after his arrest nearly two years ago.

But some of Williams’ incriminating statements will be allowed.

Crawford ruled that because of an ongoing public safety threat, investigators were permitted to question Williams about the number of people shot and the location of the gun without reading him his rights.

But the judge ruled that police violated Williams’ rights when they asked him the reason for the shooting.

Williams is accused in the August 24, 2006, incident that left two dead and two wounded.
