Henry David Thoreau’s book "Walden" is required reading for students of New England literature, nature writing, or classic American authors. But for Tom Slayton Thoreau’s writing hit a deeper chord. The author, VPR commentator, and long-time former editor-in-chief of Vermont Life Magazine was so inspired by Thoreau’s adventures in New England’s wilderness that he decided to follow in his footsteps-literally. He’s written a new book about retracing Thoreau’s steps, called "Searching for Thoreau: On the Trails and shores of Wild New England." He spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm about his inspiration.
