Firefighters in Burlington say no one was inside a historic building on Pearl Street when it caught fire last night
Firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring out of the building.
Fire Marshal Terry Francis told the Burlington Free Press there was heaving fire in the first and second floors. He says firefighters withdrew from the building when the ceiling started to collapse.
Pearl Street was closed for several hours overnight, but it was reopened to traffic just before 6 a.m.
There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire.
