Republican New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg voted against extending the "Clash for Clunkers" plan, saying it’s a "wreck" for future generations of taxpayers who will be forced to pay the bill for today’s new car purchases.

Vermont’s senators split on the measure. Senator Patrick Leahy voted against the bill. Senator Bernie Sanders voted in favor.

New Hampshire Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen supported the $2 billion extension, saying it’s a good example of what’s needed to reinvigorate the economy and help families and businesses get back on their feet.

The Senate passed the measure yesterday 60 t0 37.
