Four people have been charged following an assault on a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Derby Line, near the Vermont-Quebec border.

Federal prosecutors say two men and a woman from Brazil were discovered on a street in Derby Line at around 2:15 a.m. Monday.

They say none of them had paperwork to enter the United States. When the agent tried to take them into custody the two men fled.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says the agent tackled one man, who then assaulted the agent, throwing him over a guard rail. The agent then fired two shots at the suspects. There were no injuries.

The woman was arrested in Derby Line. The two men were arrested nearby in Stanstead, Quebec.
