People in the village of Derby Line want to explore the idea of merging with the town of Derby.
On Tuesday, the village approved the creation of a merger committee approved by the town last month.
A merger could also encompass the village of Derby Center.
Residents of both the town of Derby and the village of Derby Line say a merger could enhance economic development, preserve open lands and streamline local government.
Each village has its own water and sewer system. Derby Line’s water system is shared with Stanstead, Quebec, which makes that study more complicated.
The merger committee will continue to discuss the issue.
