Franconia Police Chief Mark Montminy says an annual memorial service to honor fallen New Hampshire officers helps with the healing but also brings back sadness over Cpl. Bruce McKay’s death last May.

McKay was one of 42 officers honored yesterday at an annual ceremony.

McKay was killed after pulling 24-year-old Liko Kenney over for speeding. Kenney shot McKay four times and ran over his body. The drama escalated when a passing motorist stopped and shot Kenney.

McKay’s ex-wife Angela McKay and 12-year-old daughter Courtney McKay attended Monday’s memorial service.

The rest of McKay’s family were in Washington where McKay’s name will be added to a national law enforcement memorial Thursday.
