FairPoint transition may mean phone change delays

The Vermont Public Service Department says residents or businesses making changes to their telephone service may see some delays in the next few weeks because of major changes involving Verizon and FairPoint Communications.

FairPoint is transferring customer and network information from Verizon’s computer system to its own. FairPoint bought Verizon’s landline phone service in the region last year.

The Vermont Department of Public Service says most customers will not be affected, but those signing up for new service, transferring or modifying service may have to wait at least a few days.

It says there may be delays for businesses beginning this week and for residential phone changes at the end of the month.
