The town clerk in East Montpelier is back on the job, a week after she was apparently asked to leave by members of the town Select Board.

Teresa Conti returned to her office Wednesday, but no one’s saying why she was asked to hand over her keys to the office in the first place.

Her lawyer, Daniel Richardson, says Conti’s back in her office and that town offices are open for business again.

Select Board officials aren’t saying what happened.

John Cushing of Milton, who’s president of the Vermont Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Association, says he’s never heard of anything like it.
