Corrections must hand over suspect’s records

A judge says the Department of Corrections must give prosecutors copies of the prison records for Essex shooting suspect Christopher Williams.

Last week defense attorneys won permission to argue that Williams was insane during an August 2006 shooting rampage that killed two and wounded two others. If Williams is ruled to be insane he could be found innocent of the shootings.

In a hearing on Wednesday, District Court Judge Geoffrey Crawford ordered the release of the documents as attorneys prepare for Williams’ trial, scheduled for next month.

Williams is charged with a number of crimes, including aggravated murder, which carries an automatic sentence of life without parole.

Williams has been jailed since shortly after the shootings.
