General Dynamics has been awarded a $12 million contract to build MK47 Striker grenade launchers for the military.

The contract, announced Monday, will be managed by General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products in Burlington, Vt., and production will be carried out in Saco, Maine.

Jeff Gramse, program manager of gun systems, says the MK47 Striker incorporates a fire control system into a lightweight 40mm grenade launcher. The system can use either conventional or programmable shells including airbursting munitions.
