Investigators say a fire that destroyed an unoccupied Clarendon house that had been condemned because of damages from Tropical Storm Irene was intentionally set.

Firefighters were called just after midnight Saturday to a house fire on Cold River Road. The back portion of the house was hanging over a ledge about 70 feet above the Cold River.

The Vermont State Police fire investigation unit said yesterday the fire’s origin was suspicious.

The house has since been removed to prevent it from falling into the river.
