In Olympic News, Bode Miller has broken his personal streak of championship mishaps by taking bronze in the Olympic downhill.
The New Hampshire native finished just 0.09 seconds behind gold medal winner Didier Defago of Switzerland.
Lake Placid’s Andrew Weibrecht also competing in the men’s downhill- he ranked 21st. Both Miller and Weibrecht will be on the slopes again today racing in Men’s super-combined.
In the women’s cross-country skiing 10 k, former Warren resident, Caitlin Compton finished 30th, but that was enough to make her the highest ranked American. In fact, it was the best finish by an American since 1984. East Montpelier’s Liz Stephen also raced, she came in 50th place.
In action today, the event to watch is the women’s snowboard cross. Stratton Mountain’s Lindsey Jacobellis looks to make up for an embarrassing moment in the Turin Olympics. That’s when she tried an unnecessary "method grab" at the end of her heat when she was in sight of a gold medal. She fell, leaving her to settle for a silver medal. The winner of 19 World Cup races and two world snowboarding championships looks to add an Olympic gold medal to her collection today.
Also today, native New Yorkers Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke of Lake Placid and Paul Smiths will compete in their second biathlon of the games, this time it’s the 12.5 k pursuit.
