Officials from the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center are preparing to pitch to state officials their plans for a $45 million expansion to the hospital.

The Bennington hospital will present its case to the Public Oversight Commission on June 4 in Montpelier. The commission must approve the plan.

Hospital Vice President Kevin McDonald says the project has been well-thought out.

The expansion would include more single-room patient beds and an increase in space for the emergency department, imaging department, lab and pharmacy.

The hospital says the expansion would bring the space for these departments up to recommended standards.
