Two weeks ago, Quebec Premier Jean Charest was scheduled to visit Vermont
and Governor Shumlin. But at the last minute, he had to cancel his trip to
attend to challenging issues facing him back in his province.
After negotiations were opened with students striking over
proposed tuition hikes, the talks failed and protests continue in the streets
of Montreal and other cities in Quebec.
And the Charbonneau Commission has opened a public inquiry into possible corruption
in the construction industry in the province. These and other issues are straining the premier’s
popularity as he decides whether to call a snap election this year.

Six years ago this week, the gay bar known as 135 Pearl
closed its doors in Burlington.
There is currently no dedicated gay bar in the state and many of Pearl’s former patrons think that’s a shame. Independent producer Sarah Ward caught up with many of them and created a is a documentary about 135 Pearl as part of her Documentary Studies graduation requirements at Burlington
