We
rely on our town governments to keep close watch on our tax dollars – and most
local officials are worthy of our trust. But
for a few, the temptation to dip into town coffers is just too strong.

We talk with Steven Jeffrey, Executive Director of the Vermont League Of Cities And Towns and Assistant Attorney General John Treadwell about the challenges of safeguarding public funds and how embezzlement is detected and prosecuted.

If you have questions or comments, post them below or email vermontedition@vpr.net.

Also, a unique partnership is helping the Burlington-based organization Bridging The Divide assist victims of domestic abuse in Iraq. We speak with Khanim Latif who works with battered women in northern Iraq and Mabrouka Liebhaber of Bridging The Divide.

And we read some of the comments we’ve received in response to recent programs.
