Vermont’s new health care exchange will go into effect in January 2014. Starting then, all individuals and companies with fewer than 50 employees will be required to purchase health insurance coverage through that exchange. Friday on Vermont Edition, we talk with two members of the Green Mountain Care Board, the panel responsible for implementing major changes to Vermont’s health care system, about whether the state will be ready to implement the exchange on time. We also discuss another key aspect of the board’s work: keeping health care costs down. Our guests are board chair Anya Rader Wallack and board member Al Gobeille.

Also in the program, VPR’s John Dillon looks at two energy stories: the legislative debate over S.30, a bill that would give towns the ability to veto a wind energy project, and the ongoing regulatory oversight of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, which has now been operating without state permission for one year.

And we listen back to some of the voices in the news this week.
