Peter Shumlin says cellular telephone users in parts of rural Caledonia
and Orange counties will soon see better service. That’s thanks
to a $2 million grant from the Federal Communications Commission.
Vermont Technical College, in Randolph, is getting $3.4 million
from the U.S. Department of Labor. The money will support training programs in agriculture,
food production, waste disposal and energy production.
Governor Peter Shumlin wants
the Vermont Lottery Commission to take a serious look at developing online
gaming opportunities. A number of states are
exploring online gambling after the U.S. Justice Department dropped its long
standing opposition to the idea.
Car dealerships around Vermont are partnering with the group Drive Electric Vermont
to celebrate National Plug In Day. They’re encouraging Vermonters to learn more
about electric vehicles.
New
rules about emergency communications are posing challenges for many Vermont communities. The Federal Communications Commission has ordered mobile
radios and pagers to operate with much less bandwidth by January of next year.
The Shumlin Administration says it’s optimistic that
it will meet its goal of having full broadband coverage in every part of the
state by the end of next year.
