planning to mark the anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene by remembering the
loss of a local icon – the historic Bartonsville Covered
Bridge, which was swept away by floodwaters.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation says a recent inspection of the
Scott Bridge in Townshend showed that it had extensive deterioration,
and that it should be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians.
The town of Rockingham is going out to bid for bridge repairs, and
holding a series of community meetings to discuss options for the
historic Bartonsville Bridge, three weeks after Tropical Storm Irene
swept it down river.
