Congressman
Peter Welch appears to be cruising to re-election. He’s running for a fourth
term in Washington, and he says he wants Vermonters to know he remains
committed to promoting their interests.
For
years Castleton’s town offices were located in a historic building in
the heart of the village. But mold and other safety concerns forced a move into temporary quarters
last year. Local residents remain split over whether to build a new town office
or restore the old one and next Tuesday they’ll vote on the issue.
A court will hold a hearing
on a campaign finance complaint filed by Republican Attorney General candidate
Jack McMullen – but not until after Election Day.
Election Day is next Tuesday, but the deadline to register to vote in Vermont is today. It’s been
a busy afternoon at city and town clerks’ offices across the state, as last
minute get-out-the-vote drives have overwhelmed town officials with voter
registration applications.

Interest in early voting is very high is several parts
of the state. In some communities it’s expected that as many as a third of all voters
will cast their ballot before Election Day.
