Wright Announces Candidacy For Burlington Mayor

Republican City Councilor Kurt Wright Tuesday morning announced that he is running for mayor of Burlington.

If elected, Wright would be Burlington’s first Republican mayor in 16 years.

In 2009, Wright lost the mayor’s race to Progressive Bob Kiss. If elected in November, Wright says a top priority would be to restore the city’s fiscal responsibility and its credit rating.

Wright, a sales representative in the food industry, joins a crowded field of candidates.

That field already includes Rep. Jason Lorber, developer Miro Weinberger and Deputy States Attorney Bram Kranichfeld.

There’s still no word whether incumbent mayor Bob Kiss will seek re-election.
