Governor Jim Douglas has signed into law modest reforms to Vermont’s workers’ compensation insurance system. The governor highlighted some of the provisions of the law at a signing ceremony on Wednesday at the Vermont Business and Industry Expo in South Burlington. One provision is a new felony classification for workers’ comp fraud involving more than ten-thousand dollars.
Douglas says that the changes enacted by this year’s Legislature are just a beginning. He says his administration may ask next year’s Legislature to take further steps to reduce workers’ comp costs.
