Worker complaints about files from closed building

Employees who worked in an office building that was closed last year over health concerns now say they’ve gotten sick from handling files housed in that building.

A complaint has been filed with the Vermont Department of Health on behalf of Department of Corrections workers who work in modular office space on the grounds of the shuttered Bennington State Office Building.

The complaint claims that employees who’ve worked with files from the old building have come down with sinus infections, bronchitis and pneumonia.

Acting Health Commissioner Sharon Moffat said Thursday the state is investigating, and that the state is aware of only one person becoming ill.
