A controversial bill being considered by a House committee of the Vermont Legislature would enable terminally ill patients to end their lives with the help of a physician.

Supporters call it "Death with Dignity." Opponents refer to it as "Physician Assisted Suicide."

Both sides gathered to voice their opinions at a public hearing this week at the Statehouse. Today in "Word for Word" you can hear a sampler of that testimony. To hear the testimony, click on the "Listen" icon.

This topic was also addressed this week on VPR’s Switchboard. You can hear the program online at VPR.net.
