The Green Mountain Club has a new boss.

Will Wiquist, former press secretary to Sen. Bernie Sanders, was named executive director for the club on Monday.

Wiquist is the first new director of the 10,000-member club in more than 10 years, and is also a former staffer for the Federal Election Commission and campaign aide to Congressman Peter Welch. He calls the club a Vermont institution.

Based in Waterbury, the 101-year-old Green Mountain Club maintains Vermont’s part of the Long Trail and promotes mountain lifestyles.

Wiquist succeeds Ben Rose in the job.
