The Winooski City Council voted to fire City Manager Joshua Handverger last night.

But Handverger says he’s going to appeal Monday’s vote.

The council took the action after all city employees on Friday gave Handverger a letter demanding his resignation.

The employees say Handverger lacks professionalism, maturity and the ability to form working relationships with others.

Since he arrived in Winooski last October Handverger has been the center of various disputes. The most public was the suspension of Police Chief Steve McQueen, who was subsequently reinstated.

Handverger and his supporters say he’s been working to make sense of the city’s convoluted finances.
