Officials in Windham County want the owners of Vermont Yankee nuclear plant to beef up their fuel storage in case of an emergency.

The Windham Regional Commission wants the state Public Service Board to put a condition on the extension of Entergy Nuclear’s operating license requiring it to have enough space in its main storage pool for a full off-load of the fuel in the reactor core.

The commission will hold a January 7th public hearing on Entergy’s plans to seek state approval to extend its operating license beyond 2012.
