Wind energy project proposed for Londonderry

(Host) A Vermont-based energy company plans to build the state’s largest wind energy project at the Magic Mountain ski area in Londonderry. Catamount Energy is a subsidiary of Central Vermont Public Service Corporation. The company has proposed a $50 million wind farm for the ski area’s summit.

A Catamount official says the company has already signed leases for 3,000 acres along the mountain ridge. The project would involve the construction of 27 wind turbines and would generate about 50 megawatts. That’s enough electricity for 12,000 homes.

Magic Mountain has run into financial trouble in recent years and was recently sold to one of the ski area’s former partners. The project is the second major wind farm proposed by Catamount. The company has run into opposition for its plans for a smaller wind energy development on Little Equinox Mountain in Manchester.
