Summer vacation is starting early for the 1,100 students in Williston’s two schools.

The Williston Central School and the Allen Brook School closed for the summer on Wednesday, two days earlier than planned because a large number of students are out with flu-like symptoms.

District Principal Walter Nardelli says the symptoms are consistent with swine flu, but the health department is only testing people at high risk of complications.

Nardelli says that on Wednesday there were 17 students and five staff members absent from the Central School with what could be the flu. No complications have been reported.

On Tuesday the Health Department said anyone with flu-like symptoms probably has swine flu.
