The Wheels Transportation Services is no longer carrying passengers. Wheels serves 23 towns in Central Vermont and is the main mode of public transportation between Montpelier and Barre.

“Wheels” officials say the closure is due to cash flow problems resulting from disagreements with the state Agency of Transportation. In an announcement, “Wheels” says it would be illegal and irresponsible to keep operating and increasing its debt.

Trini Brassard, of the Vermont Agency of Transportation, says she was caught by surprise. She says Wheels officials have been invited to a meeting tomorrow to try to find a way to resume service.
