(Host) Congressman Peter Welch has voted to ask the House Judiciary Committee to investigate articles of impeachment against President Bush. But Welch says it’s unlikely there will be any action on the issue before the end of the year.

All 227 Democrats in the House and 24 Republicans voted this afternoon to send 35 articles of impeachment to the Judiciary Committee.

Welch says the proposal contains some serious allegations that deserve to be investigated.

(Welch) “What we know is that there are policies that have been advocated and pursued by the president and by this administration that have done a lot of damage to our state and to our country and I believe it is important that we keep trying to get to the bottom of it. And whether that results in the ultimate action of impeachment I think is doubtful in view of the fact that the clock is running out."

(Host) The sponsor of the impeachment articles is Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich. He says he’ll reintroduce his motion next month if the Judiciary Committee doesn’t hold hearings in the next few weeks.
