Local food will be the topic of a discussion held by Congressman Peter Welch.
Welch has scheduled a roundtable today in Burlington to discuss how Vermont can continue to be a leader in farm-to-plate initiatives.
Welch, a new member of the House Agriculture Committee, plans to talk with farmers, distributors, consumers, economic development officials and business leaders about how the federal government can support Vermont’s agricultural community.
A new report produced by the Sustainable Jobs Fund estimate that 1,500 jobs could be created over the next decade in Vermont if residents double their consumption of locally produced food.
The roundtable will be held at the Intervale Center at 2 p.m.
