Congressman Peter Welch says he’s opposed to the impeachment of President Bush, but he says he will host a town hall forum so he can hear from Vermonters on the subject.
The Vermont Democrat, who joined the House of Representatives in January, met Saturday with impeachment proponents in Hartland but couldn’t find any common ground.
He met for about 45 minutes with Dan DeWalt of Newfane, Liza Earle of Richmond, James Leas of South Burlington and Adrienne Kinne of Sharon but told them that as much as he’s against the Iraq war, he thinks impeachment proceedings would have the effect of prolonging it.
Still, he says, he will host a town hall meeting this weekend to hear from whoever wants to weigh in on the subject.
No time and place for the meeting have been set.
