(Host) Vermont veterans who’ve returned from deployment to Afghanistan only to find the job market scarce would get a leg up on finding work under a bill sponsored by Congressman Peter Welch.

Welch plans to introduce legislation that would give a $2,400 tax credit to employers who hire veterans who’ve been jobless for at least four weeks. A similar tax credit was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, but it lapsed at the close of 2010.

Welch outlined details of the bill today at Granite Industries of Vermont, in Barre.

The measure would apply to hired veterans who’ve served active duty or National Guard for more than 180 days in the past five years.
