Welch hopeful on veteran health care bill

Vermont Congressman Peter Welch says he’s hopeful the House will pass legislation he’s sponsoring to improve veterans’ health care.

The bill establishes several new programs to assist service members as they return to civilian life.

The legislation also would provide health care and other assistance to rural and low-income veterans.

The initiative follows last winter’s reports of poor treatment of veterans at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center outside Washington.
